A ROOM THAT NURTURES

Vaghmi Pathak on her mother, Neerja’s collection of coins and currency notes

The coins are from her travels, they are currencies from different countries, mostly coins of different shapes and sizes and even weights. Some are quite heavy and some are very light. Some have intricate detailing and unique symbols.

These coins have been kept inside a pouch, in our house, for quite a long time. After my mother's marriage, my parents took a lot of international trips and since then began collecting coins and keeping them for memory.

The coins signify the places my parents have traveled. We used to look at the coins and try to figure out where our parents had traveled to. My mother used to collect these coins whenever she exchanged currency while shopping for herself or for the home.
